Is that a meeting of two pop legends I smell in the air?
When Lady Gaga’s new studio album, Mayhem, hit streaming services, many fans (and critics) noticed the similarity between Gaga’s new track “How Bad Do U Want Me” and the discography of one miss Taylor Swift (you can really hear the parallels here).
In fact, Gaga’s background vocals sounded so much like Swift, that some fans were convinced the “Fortnight” singer made a secret cameo on the song.
One fan humorously compared the track to Swift’s collaboration with Lana Del Rey, “Snow on the Beach,” where Del Rey initially only provided subtle backing vocals (until a remix was later released).
“Not Taylor Swift having her Snow on the beach moment on #MAYHEM with How bad do u want me i-” the user wrote. Another wondered, “Is it finally Taylor Swift singing on Lady Gaga’s ‘How Bad Do U Want Me’ or what? Any Swifties who’ve listened to the track? Confirm for me!”
Sadly, a source told Page Six that the rumors were “false” and “not true,” and Swift was not credited anywhere on the album.
However, Gaga didn’t seem to mind the comparisons, and she even promoted them by reposting a couple of videos on TikTok that discussed the likeness.
On the release day for Mayhem, Gaga shared one video from a fan, who wrote, “Thank you Lady Gaga for taking us back to the Eras Tour with this 1989 TV vault track (Mayhem Version).”
(Some have pointed out that the sound of “How Bad Do U Want Me” is similar to Swift’s 1989 album, and its reissue 1989 [Taylor’s Version].)
Then, Gaga reposted another video where a fan wrote, “Oh Gaga used Taylor’s nacho recipe and ATE 🤩 (Taylor’s Version) when?”
Clearly, Gaga is happy to see of the comparisons, and it’s no surprise given the pair’s friendship. In the past few months, the two have shown their love for each other, like last September, when Gaga expressed her admiration for Swift and other fellow pop stars in an interview with Vogue.
“I mean, I really love them,” she said. “I go on the internet and, like, cry. And I love Taylor Swift too. And Kesha. I watch it all, and I’m like: Yup. Go! Just go.”
Meanwhile, after some fans made presumptuous claims about Gaga being pregnant last year, Swift jumped to the singer’s defense in a TikTok comment, saying.
“Can we all agree that it’s invasive & irresponsible to comment on a woman’s body. Gaga doesn’t owe anyone an explanation & neither does any woman.”
If these two ever did collaborate, it might just break the internet. But for now, we’ll just have to enjoy the sonic crossover (and maybe wait for a remix one day). You can check out the full lyrics for “How Bad Do U Want Me” below.
The good girl in your dreams
Is mad you’re lovin’ me
I know you wish that she was me
How bad, bad do you want me?
You’re not the guy that cheats (Not the guy that cheats)
And you’re afraid that she might leave (That she might leave)
’Cause if I get too close, she might scream
“How bad, bad do you want me?”
’Cause you like my hair and my ripped-up jeans
You like the bad girl I got in me
She’s on your mind, like, all the time
But I got a tattoo for us last week
Even good boys bleed
How bad, bad do you want me? (How bad, bad do you want me?)
(How bad, bad do you want me?)
’Cause you hate thе crash, but you love the rush
And I’ll make your hеart weak every time
You hear my name, ’cause she’s in your brain
And I’m here to kiss you in real life
’Bout to cause a scene
How bad, bad do you want me?
You panic in your sleep (Panic in your sleep)
And you feel like such a creep (Feel like such a creep)
’Cause with your eyes closed, you might peek
So hot, hot that you can’t speak
You’re so fucked up with your crew (Fucked up with your crew)
But when you’re all alone, it’s true (All alone, it’s true)
You know exactly what we do
How bad, bad do you want to?
’Cause you like my hair, my ripped-up jeans
You like the bad girl I got in me
She’s on your mind, like, all the time
But I got a tattoo for us last week
Even good boys bleed
How bad, bad do you want me? (How bad, bad do you want me?)
(How bad, bad do you want me?)
’Cause you hate the crash, but you love the rush
And I’ll make your heart weak every time
You hear my name, ’cause she’s in your brain
And I’m here to kiss you in real life
’Bout to cause a scene
How bad, bad do you want me?
Uh-oh, oh, you love a good girl
Uh-oh, oh, you love a good girl bad
Uh-oh, oh, you make a bad girl
Uh-oh, oh, you make a bad girl mad
A psychotic love theme
How bad do you want me?
That girl in your head ain’t real
How bad do you want me, for real? (Oh)
’Cause you like my hair, my ripped-up jeans
You like the bad girl I got in me
She’s on your mind, like, all the time
But I got a tattoo for us last week
Even good boys bleed
How bad, bad do you want me? (How bad, bad do you want me?)
(How bad? Tell me)
’Cause you hate the crash, but you love the rush
And I’ll make your heart weak every time
You hear my name, but she’s on your brain
And I’m here to kiss you in real life
’Bout to cause a scene
How bad, bad do you want me?
Uh-oh, oh, you love a good girl
Uh-oh, oh, you love a good girl bad
Uh-oh, oh, you make a bad girl
Uh-oh, oh, you make a bad girl mad
A psychotic love theme
How bad do you want me?
