Ruth Langsford has revealed that she will be celebrating Valentine’s Day a little differently this year—by spending it with her close friends.

The popular television presenter, who announced her divorce from Eamonn Holmes in May last year, shared on Loose Women
that she’ll be embracing the growing trend of “Galentine’s Day” rather than the traditional romantic holiday.
During Monday’s episode of the ITV daytime talk show, Ruth and her fellow panelists

Sally Dynevor, Brenda Edwards, and Ayda Field Williams—discussed the upcoming Valentine’s holiday.

The conversation quickly shifted to the idea of celebrating friendship instead of romance, a concept that has become increasingly popular in recent years.

Ruth Embraces ‘Galentine’s Day’
Kicking off the discussion, Ruth highlighted the changing attitudes toward Valentine’s Day. “Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and we’ll be celebrating ‘Loose Love’ every day this week,” she began. “But this year, it’s out with hearts and flowers and in with friends, because Galentine’s or Palentine’s is more important for young people these days.”
She then went on to share her own plans for the occasion. “I think it’s rather nice because I’ve had some gal friends invite me out for this Valentine’s Day,” Ruth revealed
“They sent me an invite that said, ‘You’re invited to Galentine’s Day, and we’re all going out,’ and I thought, ‘Aw, that’s really nice.’ I haven’t done that before.”
For Ruth, this marks a fresh approach to the holiday following her split from Eamonn Holmes. The former This Morning co-hosts were married for 14 years and share a 22-year-old son, Jack.
Since their separation, Ruth has been vocal about embracing life as a single woman, focusing on personal growth and friendships rather than rushing back into dating.

Moving Forward After Divorce
Nine months after announcing her divorce, Ruth has been open about the challenges and emotions that come with ending a long-term relationship. In a previous interview with woman&home, she shared her thoughts on navigating life after her split from Eamonn.
“Relationship breakdowns are very difficult—whether it’s a marriage, a friendship, or something else—but you just deal with it and you have to move on,” she said. “You can either let yourself crumble, or you pick yourself up and get on with life. It’s a choice.”
She went on to express that while she isn’t necessarily thrilled about the end of her marriage, she is determined to focus on the positives. “I’m not delighted my marriage is over, but I’ve accepted that my marriage is over. So I am trying to now embrace the fact that I’m single and can make choices that are just about me.”

Prioritizing Friendship Over Romance
Ruth isn’t alone in choosing to celebrate friendship rather than romance this Valentine’s Day. Many people, including fellow television presenter Vanessa Feltz, have voiced similar sentiments.
Vanessa, who split from her long-term partner Ben Ofoedu last year, previously stated that she and Ruth have little interest in dating at the moment.
“I don’t know if either of us can be bothered,” Vanessa told MailOnline. “We’d probably rather go out together, have a laugh, and leave men out of it.”
For Ruth, this approach aligns perfectly with her current mindset. Rather than dwelling on the past or feeling pressured to find a new romantic partner, she is focusing on enjoying time with her friends and making the most of her independence.

A New Chapter for Ruth Langsford
Since her split, Ruth has remained busy with her television career, fashion projects, and personal endeavors. She continues to be a familiar face on Loose Women, where she regularly engages in candid discussions about relationships, life changes, and personal empowerment.
With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, Ruth’s decision to spend it with her friends instead of focusing on romance sends a strong message—love doesn’t always have to be about a partner.
Whether it’s celebrating Galentine’s Day, Palentine’s Day, or simply enjoying time with loved ones, Ruth is proving that happiness can come in many forms.

As she steps into this new chapter of her life, she remains a source of inspiration for many who may be going through similar experiences.
Her positive outlook and determination to embrace single life show that moving forward isn’t about finding someone new—it’s about rediscovering yourself and cherishing the relationships that truly matter.
