Channel Seven journalist Cassie Zervos has slammed social media users after her appearance was trolled online.
The reporter, who had been covering a ‘bizarre’ court case involving a mother who confessed to stealing a dead person’s toes to sell on the black market, was savaged online about her appearance.
Feeling ‘shocked’ by the comments, she opened up about the ordeal and how disappointed she was that people were commenting on her appearance rather than the court case.
‘The case I was covering that day was a particularly bizarre one and I was curious to see what people were saying about it online, so I decided to read the comments – which I never usually do,’ she told the publication.
Realising that most of the focus was on her appearance, particularly the way her eyes looked, Zervos was left reeling, especially because most of the comments were made by women.
‘I remember sitting in the court room thinking, “jeez… it was only two weeks ago we were celebrating International Women’s Day“,’ she told news.com.au.

The reaction on social media prompted the journalist to speak out on TikTok in the hope that others wouldn’t be criticised for their appearance while doing their jobs.
In the clip, which has been viewed by 57.3K people already, Zervos called out trolls for their behaviour online.
‘I was covering a really awful story… now, instead of people focusing on what I was reporting on, they thought it was OK to comment on how I looked,’ she said in the video.
Some of the comments included criticism about her eyes, her eyelashes and her makeup, with some claiming she looked like she’d had a ‘big weekend’.
‘This is my face, this is who I am,’ Zervos told the camera.
‘I believe we can be better and as human beings we can be kinder to one another,’ she added.
‘It’s 2025, we shouldn’t be commenting or focusing on how people look, it’s just not OK, it can make people feel really sad.
‘I’m human with feelings and I was left feeling pretty crappy about it.’

Zervos received an outpouring of support in the comments section, with her fans lifting her up following the derogatory comments.
‘You’re gorgeous, they’re just jealous,’ one person wrote.
‘What ever happened to women supporting women? They’re deflecting their own insecurities. It’s sad,’ another chimed in.
‘Chin up Cass,’ one person wrote, adding: ‘Haters going to hate. That story was weird!’
‘WHAT You are literally so stunning, I have no idea what they are talking about, but it’s quite obviously jealousy,’ another fan wrote in disbelief.
‘I have seen some of the most awful comments from other women online lately. Not ok. Agree we shouldn’t be commenting on other people’s looks,’ one of her followers shared.
