In the three years since Lachie Gill won The Voice Australia, he’s released his debut EP, toured across Australia, and even performed concerts overseas. One thing he hasn’t done, however, is stay in contact with his superstar coach Rita Ora.

The former PE teacher was coached by the UK hitmaker on the eleventh season of the singing competition, which also featured Keith Urban, Jessica Mauboy and Guy Sebastian sitting in the iconic red chairs. He shared a video on Wednesday answering the “most common question” he’s been asked by his followers, and revealed he hasn’t spoken with Rita at all since filming the show.

“Your most common question is finally answered,” he captioned the post.

The video began with the questions, ‘Are you still friends with Rita Ora?’, ‘Do you still talk to Rita?’, and ‘Have you seen Rita since The Voice?’.

“No…” he wrote. “BUT… I’ll always remember us this way.”

The video then showed a snippet from his performance with Rita at The Voice 2022 grand finale when they performed a duet of ‘Always Remember Us This Way’ by Lady Gaga.

Lachie admitted to Yahoo Lifestyle in 2023 that the last time he had spoken to Rita was via text after the finale aired on TV.

“She messaged me after the show and just said she’s super proud of me. She actually said, ‘We won! I’m super proud of you’,” he recalled.

He also said the best advice he ever received from her during the competition was that he was “good enough to be here”.

“The main thing from her was, ‘You’re good enough to be here. You’ve got the things that you do really well, don’t try and be anything else, just do that well’,” he shared.

Lachie and Rita’s non-existent relationship is a stark contrast to the close friendship between the 2024 winner of The Voice, Reuben De Melo, and his coach LeAnn Rimes.

Reuben told Yahoo Lifestyle last year that they’d stayed in regular contact since filming the show, and the Can’t Fight The Moonlight singer even sent his family a gift when he and his wife Olivia welcomed their third child together.

“She’s always keeping in touch, always involved in family, and I think I’d probably call her a friend now,” he remarked. “She even woke up at 2am to watch the finale, which she normally doesn’t do.”

Reuben also posted a video earlier this month announcing that LeAnn had asked him to be the opening act on her upcoming Australian tour in September.

This is similar to 2021 winner Bella Taylor Smith, who supported her coach Guy Sebastian on his tour the year after she won. Meanwhile, Rita is set to return to Australia later this year as the special guest on Ricky Martin’s tour.
