Everyone is itching for the premiere of The Floor, even Today hosts Karl Stefanovic and Sarah Abo who battled it out in their very own duel ahead of the show’s launch.

In case you need a quick summary, the concept of The Floor is rather simple: Rodger Corser hosts 81 Aussies who will face off in timed duels on a colossal, futuristic floor.

To give us a taste of what’s to come, Karl and Sarah joined Rodger in the studio to find out who was the expert of breakfast foods.

They are the king and queen of breakfast TV so they should know the morning must-haves, right? We soon learned that wasn’t necessarily the case.

Karl and Sarah blitzed through the first four rounds getting every answer correct until one simple question stumped Karl.

Karl winced as he stared at a picture of a breakfast bagel on the big screen.

Despite the glaringly obvious Karl named the item as “smashed avo on toast”, proving that the pressure of The Floor will get to even the most skilled competitors.

“Oh come off it,” Karl grumbled as a red siren deemed his answer wrong.

Sarah laughed as she eventually claimed victory over Karl.

After Karl’s loss in the first round, he fought for redemption as the duo went head-to-head in a second round this time to test their knowledge of popular bands.

How does The Floor work?

Families across Australia will be on the edge of their seats as they watch and play along with The Floor starting Monday April 28 at 7:30pm on 9Now and Channel 9.

Combining intense strategy and high-stakes trivia, and popcorn-grabbing suspense, The Floor promises a gripping game of wits and endurance.

Each player will begin with one tile on the floor that represents their subject of expertise, topics range from Aussie slang phrases, to items you’ll find in the kitchen drawer.

Their aim is to challenge and win their neighbours’ tiles and steal their area of The Floor. Whoever wins the entire floor will rule all and claim the life-changing $200,000 prize.
