Robert Irwin has penned a heartfelt birthday message to his I’m A Celeb co-host Julia Morris after reports of an alleged rivalry between the industry veteran and the rising TV golden boy.

“Most of the pictures we have look very much like these. Me trying (and failing) to keep a straight face between laughing. Have a great day!”

Julia was quick to send a reply, writing that making Irwin laugh was “actually a massive joy”.

“Love you and making you laugh is actually a massive joy in my life, J x,” she replied.

Morris has been hosting Channel Ten’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! Australia since 2015.

Irwin was tapped to join I’m A Celeb in 2023, replacing Dr Chris Brown as Morris’ co-host on the reality series, which sees a group of Aussie celebrities fight it out to be crowned King or Queen of the jungle.

Irwin was controversially nominated for the Gold Logie for his presenting efforts at just 20 years old following his first season on the show.

The warm post comes just months after sources claimed that Morris felt “overshadowed” by her younger co-host during production on the series last year.

According to a network insider who spoke to Daily Mail Australia, Morris felt under pressure to “keep up” with the 21-year-old son of crocodile hunter Steve Irwin.

“While the viewers have celebrated the arrival of Robert Irwin as host, Julia is feeling fatigued by the pressure to match his natural energy,” an on-set source said.

Another article by Daily Mail Australia even claimed Ten was considering replacing Morris with Robert’s elder sister, Bindi Irwin, and giving the show an Irwin-themed reboot.

“I’d say someone at Ten is looking at how they can guarantee I’m A Celebrity’s return for the next ten years and that is why there is the potential for the Irwins to completely take over the celebrity-based-competition,” the source said in August.

“Terri would have more control over the show, and this would be an exciting refresh of the brand.

“The Irwins would love to contribute their passion and positivity to the show and create more awareness of our natural world.”

Ten flatly shut down speculation about Morris’ future on the jungle-themed reality series, which has yet to be officially renewed for another season after wrapping production in February.
