The drama has well and truly begun on this year’s season of Farmer Wants A Wife, with two contestants choosing to quit the show in Monday night’s episode. Less than 24 hours after arriving at Farmer Tom’s farm in Borambola, NSW, 34-year-old lawyer Bridget and 29-year-old fitness coach Emmie-Rose decided the experience wasn’t for them.

“We gave it all we could, but what’s the point in staying if there isn’t something there that both of us want to pursue?” Emmie-Rose said upon leaving, while Bridget added, “You can’t force love. You can’t force connection. It takes two to tango”.

The pair were filmed hopping into a Maxi Taxi early in the morning without saying goodbye to Farmer Tom or explaining their reason for leaving. Instead, he was left blindsided when he woke up and realised he only had three women left on his farm.

Tom’s co-star Farmer Corey previously told Yahoo Lifestyle that while he understands it’s a “huge sacrifice”, his biggest “red flag” going on the show was somebody who wasn’t serious about moving to the farm.

“Moving away from friends, family, support network, it’s a lot. It’s pretty full on,” he shared. “So I suppose that comes with the category of trying to figure out if the girls really are genuine about finding love when coming on the show, and that’s a red flag if they don’t want to and they’re not prepared to make the move or can’t see themselves on the farm.”

Viewers divided over shock exit

Bridget and Emmie-Rose’s sudden departure has divided fans on social media, with some people applauding the duo for doing what’s best for them.

“Good on them,” one person wrote, while another added, “It’s good they realised early that Tom nor the farm was for them”.

“At least they aren’t the type to hang around for the fame,” a third shared, followed by someone else who said, “If you don’t feel it, you don’t feel it. Also, the reality of farm life may have kicked in. I think a lot of the girls have an idealistic view of farms. They are hard work and the wrong weather can cripple you”.

Meanwhile, others argued that it was “rude” and “disrespectful” that they took up two contestants’ spots and didn’t even say goodbye to Farmer Tom.

“Do these women not think about the remoteness and what they have to sacrifice to be on a farm BEFORE applying, you have wasted the farmers’ time and also taken away the opportunity for other women to have a shot?” one viewer remarked.

“Weak weak effort. Didn’t give it a decent go and rudely walked out. Terrible behaviour. Taken the place of people who genuinely wanted to be there,” someone else commented, with a different user writing, “Hopefully they’ll bring two other applicants in. How would the two who didn’t get picked to come to the farm feel seeing this?”.

Emmie-Rose goes rogue: ‘My love’

It wasn’t too much of a surprise that Emmie-Rose quit the show after Yahoo Lifestyle revealed that she had shared a post on Instagram last month announcing that she had found love with someone else.

The former competitive bikini model posted a series of loved-up snaps with her boyfriend Alex, who is also a fitness coach, alongside the caption: “My love ❤️”.

The since-deleted post also featured the song ‘LOVE LOOKS PRETTY ON YOU’ by Nessa Barrett, and received a comment from one follower who said: “You both look great together.”

While reality TV participants are typically instructed to keep their relationship status private while the show is airing so they don’t spoil any storylines, her rogue post and sudden walkout suggest she’s not one to follow the rules.
