Many viewers have criticised the format of Monday night’s episode.

Australian Survivor fans have called for a major change to the reality show following Monday night’s grand finale. The nail-biting episode ended with 24-year-old financial analyst Myles Kuah beating out Kaelan Lockhart, 27, at the final tribal council and winning the title of Sole Survivor and $500,000.
While most fans were thrilled with the result and have described Myles as one of the greatest players they’ve ever seen, many have since taken to social media to question why there was no reunion episode to end the season. In the past, Australian Survivor has ended with the entire cast reuniting to discuss their gameplay, explain their big moves, and unpack any controversial moments.
The US version of the reality show famously used to end with the votes being cast during the game, but read out months later in front of a live audience. This has since changed so the votes are cast and announced on the same day, however, they still film a reunion episode every season.

Fans slam ‘unsatisfying ending’ to the season
One social media user received a flurry of replies when they shared a post on Reddit about how Australian Survivor no longer films a reunion episode, writing: “Anyone else wish that they brought back the reunion shows and announced the winner there? The show should be treated as a spectacle and you could go over every part of the game.”
“Reunions are some of my favourite episodes,” another added. “People have watched the show and seen what’s happened behind their backs. People get to explain their games better.”
“Yes. I was eager to watch a reunion,” a third shared, while another replied, “I wish we had that like the US version, would be so good to hear everyone’s take on the game”.
“It feels so empty. It’s like the last chapter has been torn off the book and you just have to deal with an unsatisfying ending,” someone else remarked, followed by a different user who said, “Why would they stop doing them? It’s such an anticlimax”.
Why did Australian Survivor stop filming reunions?
Meanwhile, others pointed out that the reality show would likely never have a reunion again due to the high production cost in Australia.
“Covid f**ked up the cost of these types of things. Never going to happen again unfortunately,” one viewer commented, while another said, “I loved them too but it would cost 100k in just flights and accommodation for 24 players”.
“I definitely love the idea of getting more closure than just ‘Okay you win congrats isn’t that great CUT TO CREDITS’, but from what I’ve seen of reunion shows they’ve never been able to pull off being entertaining in their own right,” a fan argued.
“Unpopular opinion, perhaps, but I prefer the finales this way. More intimate, OG style and less stuff that I honestly don’t always want to have to sit through to get to what I am ultimately tuning in for,” someone else shared.
The last time Australian Survivor filmed a reunion episode was for All Stars in 2020, which Osher Günsberg hosted as Jonathan LaPaglia was in Los Angeles during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Secret to Australian Survivor grand finale
Instead of filming a reunion episode months after the game ends, Australian Survivor typically films alternate endings so the result doesn’t get leaked. This means that nobody knows who won the season until it airs on TV.
Australian Survivor: Heroes V Villains champion Liz Parnov revealed to Yahoo Lifestyle following her win in 2023 that the reality show had filmed multiple different results.
“We filmed alternate endings for everyone, so I only actually found out that I’d won yesterday,” she explained. “So it’s all very, very fresh.”
When asked about how they filmed alternate finales, Liz said the show’s host Jonathan LaPaglia read “fake votes” from the voting urn.
“They can bring in fake votes and read them out, and then they don’t show the real votes,” she detailed. “It’s wild.”
