Married At First Sight’s Paul Antoine has broken his silence and revealed why he went on a date that ultimately ruined his ‘marriage’ with Carina Mirabile.

Married At First Sight’s Paul Antoine has broken his silence and revealed why he agreed to go on a date that ultimately ruined his marriage.

Chaos ensued between Paul, 30, and his on-screen wife Carina Mirabile 31, after the Frenchman decided to meet his ‘backup’ match Hannah Dawson during the final task.

Despite instantly regretting the move, a feud erupted back at the apartment when Paul told Carina he was “curious” to meet his new suitor.

She said he would “regret” going on the date for the “rest of his life” as their nine-week relationship came to a crescendo at Final Vows, where she dumped him.

Speaking on Sunday about the controversial move, Paul said he felt producers “pressured” him to decide to go on the date.

“I still don’t know what I was thinking. Honestly, I don’t even have an answer. It was so stupid,” he told Daily Mail Australia.

“Producers were like, ‘Come on, hurry up — what’s your decision?’ I didn’t think it through. I just went along with it like it was another task.

“I remember thinking, ‘I don’t want to be here.’ But I felt stuck. My producer said it was too late.

Paul said Carina was “shattered” and he “knew in that moment our relationship was probably done”.

It comes after she says that the final task was the “last straw” in their relationship and that she is “done” with him.

“I’m disgusted, I’m embarrassed. There’s no going past this like you did not consider how I was going to feel again,” Carina said at the time.

“You were just thinking about yourself; go and do that in the real world…you think about doing that with another woman, then you’re going to f****** cheat.”

Their tumultuous relationship also saw Paul punch a hole in the wall of their apartment off-camera in an earlier incident, which left viewers shocked.

He threw the punch after a night out where Carina admitted she slept with an American rapper understood to be Quavo before the pair wed on-screen.

Reflecting on the incident on Sunday, Paul said the punch occurred while he was “mentally drained” from 12 to 14-hour days of filming and five hours of sleep and “just snapped.”

He said he felt like Carina was “bragging,” which “confused” him after she said she was “ashamed” of her past in her confession letter.

“Now it seemed like she was owning it proudly in front of everyone,” he said.

Paul admitted the incident was “unacceptable” and felt shame and disgust.

He said he told the producers he understood if they needed to kick him off the show.

However, Paul was put on notice and permitted to stay in the experiment under the provision he didn’t drink and underwent therapy sessions every Saturday morning.

Despite their ups and downs, the Frenchman said he and Carina are now amicable and on good terms and has nothing but admiration and affection for her.
