The Block teams might be building an entire house this season, but one team has been working on another secret project this whole time – a baby! House 1’s Emma and Ben made the exciting announcement in Wednesday night’s episode after learning they’re expecting a baby boy.

Emma, who is 12 weeks into her pregnancy on the show, told the cameras through happy tears, “We got some pretty big news… we’re having a baby!”

Ben also teared up, saying, “We just found out we’re going to have a boy. We hit 12 weeks, got the results back from a blood test, and it’s going to be a little baby boy. We’re both over the moon.”

When a producer asked Ben if the news made him emotional, he responded through tears, “Yeah, really emotional and like, I’m a pretty private person, most of the time.”

He joked to the cameras, “We’re not just building a room, Em’s growing a human!”

They later told Scott Cam and Shelley Craft, and the hosts excitedly told the rest of the houses.

Robby said that he “picked it”, adding that he was “absolutely over the moon for them”. Meanwhile, Britt and Taz were in disbelief, with Britt describing it as “the best news ever”.

Fans and former Block stars shared messages of congratulations on social media, with last year’s winners Maddy and Charlotte writing, “So happy for you guys!! What an absolute weapon you are Emma soldiering on while pregnant!”

Shaynna Blaze added, “This is so wonderful! A Block baby during the reno, huge congrats to Ben and Emma.”

Jimmy and Tam, who won the 2020 season, wrote, “So happy for you guys”, while Ricky and Haydn added, “Congrats legends! Best year incoming”.

‘Womb reveal’

“Did Emma do the first trimester and The Block together?!” one viewer asked. “If yes. How? Also congrats.”

“Didn’t expect tonight’s episode to be a womb reveal,” another joked. “Congrats!”

“Nicest couple ever on The Block, her smile is infectious, his kind nature and together how they respect each other is so nice to watch,” a third said.

“I’m crying,” someone else wrote. “Emma you are holding yourself together amazingly you should be beyond proud of yourself alongside doing The Block while pregnant, you’re a superstar.”

Fans complain about ‘rude’ detail in announcement

Others, however, didn’t like the fact that Scotty and Shelley told the other houses the news, with one person writing, “Congrats but why couldn’t [Emma and Ben] tell the others. It was rude for Scott to tell them.”

“Why is Scotty sharing your news to the contestants?” another questioned.

However, another viewer responded, “Scotty and Shelly had Ben and Emma’s permission to tell the other teams. It’s harmless.”
