Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos have long been admired as one of Hollywood’s most enduring and affectionate couples.

After more than two decades of marriage, the duo continues to give fans insight into their successful relationship.
During a recent episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, the couple opened up about the importance of trust in their marriage and why certain behaviors—
like tracking each other’s locations—are a firm dealbreaker for them.

Trust Over Tracking: The Secret to Their Strong Bond

On the February 11 episode of their morning talk show, Ripa and Consuelos delved into a discussion about privacy and trust in relationships.

The topic arose during their opening coffee talk, where Ripa emphasized that she has no desire to keep tabs on her husband’s every move.
“The last thing I want to know is where you are at all times,” Ripa stated, making it clear that she values personal space and autonomy in her marriage.
Consuelos echoed her sentiments, explaining that they don’t rely on location-sharing apps to keep track of one another.
“I don’t need to know that. I know where you are here, and that’s enough for me,” he said, adding that when at home, Ripa could typically find him in his den.
The couple also shared their thoughts on relationships where one partner insists on constant location updates. Consuelos admitted he finds that dynamic unsettling, while Ripa questioned the need for such behavior in the first place.
“That type of behavior would be a dealbreaker for me,” Ripa stated firmly. “If you need to know where I am at all times, that’s a problem. I’m where I told you I am, and you don’t need to know anything beyond that.”

A Rare Exception: When Tracking Made Sense
While Ripa and Consuelos largely avoid location-sharing, there was one instance where it nearly became necessary. Ripa recounted a time when she got lost while hiking alone in Colorado, despite Consuelos advising her against the solo trip.
“Mark told me, ‘Don’t do it,’ and I said, ‘I know where I am,’ and of course, I got lost,” she admitted.
Recognizing the potential danger of the situation, Consuelos suggested that she share her location with him so he could guide her back to safety.
However, Ripa struggled with the idea, likening the situation to a generational divide where she felt resistant to embracing modern tracking technology.
“Mark said, ‘Share your location with me, and I’ll guide you home,’ but I just couldn’t bring myself to do it,” she explained.

This exception highlighted how, in rare cases, sharing one’s location can be useful—but as a general practice, it’s not something they incorporate into their marriage.
Relationship Trends: Location Sharing as a Dealbreaker
The conversation between Ripa and Consuelos stemmed from a Wall Street Journal article discussing the role of location tracking in modern relationships. According to the report, a survey conducted by Life360 revealed that 21% of couples consider the refusal to share locations a dealbreaker.
For some, location-sharing fosters a sense of security and connection, while for others—like Ripa and Consuelos—it can feel like an unnecessary invasion of privacy. The couple’s stance is clear: they believe that a strong relationship should be built on mutual trust, not constant monitoring.
A Love Story That Stands the Test of Time
Ripa and Consuelos’ enduring marriage began in the mid-’90s when they met on the set of All My Children.
Their on-screen chemistry as love interests Hayley Vaughan and Mateo Santos soon blossomed into a real-life romance, leading to their wedding in 1996.

Over the years, they have navigated the ups and downs of marriage while raising their three children—Michael, Lola, and Joaquin.
Despite their high-profile careers, they’ve always maintained a strong foundation rooted in respect, humor, and independence.
Consuelos officially joined Live as Ripa’s full-time co-host in 2023 following Ryan Seacrest’s departure. Their natural chemistry on-screen mirrors their real-life dynamic, making them a beloved duo among fans.
The Key to Their Marriage: Respect and Space
Ripa and Consuelos’ take on location-sharing reinforces a core value in their marriage—respecting each other’s space.
While some couples may see location tracking as a necessity, they believe that trust is the ultimate foundation of any strong relationship.
As Ripa put it, “I’m where I told you I am, and that should be enough.”
Their love story serves as a reminder that while technology has changed how relationships function, the fundamental principles of trust, communication, and respect remain timeless.
