On the morning of October 28, Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts had difficult news to share with her followers before going on air.

The beloved broadcaster, 63, had just returned from New Orleans, where she attended a Taylor Swift concert with her wife, Amber Laign, and her goddaughter.
However, upon her return, she received heartbreaking news from her sister, Sally-Ann Roberts.
During her daily morning message and prayer from her dressing room at ABC News Studios,

Robin revealed that a close family friend, veteran journalist Eric Paulsen, had passed away after a battle with cancer.

The news came as a devastating blow, particularly for Sally-Ann, who had worked closely with Eric for many years.

A Legacy in Journalism
“Unfortunately, right before we left for the concert,” Robin shared with her followers, “my sister Sally-Ann called to let me know that a dear friend, a dear family friend, Eric Paulsen, had passed away from cancer.”
Eric Paulsen was a highly respected news anchor who dedicated nearly five decades of his career to WWL-TV, a CBS affiliate station in New Orleans. A trusted face in the community, he was known for his storytelling, charisma, and ability to connect with audiences.
Over the years, he formed a strong professional bond with Sally-Ann, and together, they became a staple of morning television in New Orleans.
Reflecting on his impact, Robin spoke emotionally, saying, “Eric and my sister Sally-Ann ruled morning television in New Orleans for many, many years.” Fighting back tears, she continued, “There are so many heartbroken folks right now—my sister, Eric’s family, and many New Orleanians.”

A Touching Tribute
Robin dedicated her morning message to Eric, focusing on grief and healing, a sentiment that resonated deeply with her audience. She ended her tribute with a heartfelt kiss to the sky, honoring her late friend.
The news of Eric’s passing comes just a month after he was recognized with the Press Club of New Orleans’ Lifetime Achievement Award. He also received a special salute from the New Orleans City Council, celebrating his long-standing contributions to journalism.
Eric Paulsen’s Battle with Cancer

In September, Eric publicly shared his diagnosis, revealing that he was facing an aggressive form of cancer.
He never returned to the air after making his announcement, leaving many viewers and colleagues heartbroken. In an open letter to his audience, he expressed his determination to fight the disease, writing, “I’ve always been a fighter.
This is a fight I don’t welcome, but I’m ready for this battle. My attitude is very positive, and I have a lot of support from family and friends, which means I will see you all soon.”
Throughout his treatment, Sally-Ann remained by his side, providing support and comfort during his final months. She recently spoke about Eric’s unwavering dedication to journalism, recalling his ability to cover both lighthearted and serious news with equal passion and professionalism.
Remembering Eric Paulsen
Sally-Ann shared her thoughts in a statement to NOLA.com, saying, “I can’t imagine New Orleans without Eric Paulsen. Eric may not be from New Orleans, but as Frank Davis used to say, he is naturally New Orleans. It’s like he was born here.”

She went on to describe his extraordinary interviewing skills, emphasizing how he had a way of making people feel at ease. “He was an excellent interviewer. He put people at ease.
People would come into the station, and they’d be nervous wrecks because they hadn’t been on TV. After a few minutes, they would be relaxed; it was as if they were talking to their best friend.”
Eric leaves behind his wife, Bethany, and their three children, who are now mourning the loss of a devoted husband and father.
A Lasting Impact
Eric Paulsen’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him and the many viewers who welcomed him into their homes each morning. His contributions to journalism and his deep connection to the New Orleans community will never be forgotten.

As Robin Roberts continues to share her morning messages with her audience, her words of healing and comfort serve as a reminder of the importance of cherishing loved ones and celebrating the impact they leave behind.
