Channel 10 has shared a major update on the future of its latest talk show gamble Sam Pang Tonight, just weeks after the series debuted on screens.

Channel 10’s new talk show gamble, Sam Pang Tonight will return to screens for a “second” run of episodes later this year, the network has revealed.

The weekly late night show premiered last month to lukewarm critical reviews but managed to pull in Ten’s biggest audience for a new show since 2022.

On Monday, the network confirmed that Sam Pang Tonight will “bookend the year” with a fresh eight-episode run in late 2025.

“Expect more laughs as Sam takes on the week’s news and welcomes a bunch more guests, including local legends, engaging experts, and comedy mates playing the part of Special Guest Announcer,” the network said in a statement.

Pang, a veteran on Ten thanks to his long-running stint as a panellist on Have You Been Paying Attention?, said he was “very grateful” to see the series renewed.

“I’m thrilled to be coming back for Season 2,” Pang said in a statement.

“I’m very grateful to Channel 10 for their support and commitment to the show and giving me the opportunity to continue doing something I love.”

Sam Pang Tonight features an American-style late night format with celebrity guests and marks the most ambitious attempt at a late night series since Rove left the airways in 2009.

Daniel Monaghan, Senior Vice President Content & Programming, said the network was “thrilled” with the performance of Sam Pang Tonight and credited the host with revitalising the format.

“It’s always a thrill to share a fresh new format with viewers, and we’re absolutely delighted with the success of Sam Pang Tonight,” he said in a statement.

“Aussies are loving Sam’s signature comedy style so it’s no surprise Sam Pang Tonight was 10’s biggest new show launch since 2022.

“We’re excited to keep the laughs rolling with a second season confirmed for the back end of 2025.”

The major update comes as Ten attempts to rebuild its programming line up amid shrinking advertising revenue and the end of several of the network’s long-running reality franchises.

Over the past year, Ten wielded the axe to its once-popular The Bachelor and The Bachelorette franchises for good, while retooling its summer staple I’m A Celeb by slashing budgets and shortening production time.
